THE HISTORY OF TARTU The foundation of Tartu Klaabu Kindergarten and approving the statute by the decision no 533 of Tartu City Council, 11th June 2009 The building of Tartu Klaabu Kindergarten was projected by the RTG Projectbureau; architect Katrin Tomberg-Tohter, interior designer Marina Sutt, furniture manufactor Eero Leiten, kindergarten was built by Facio Ehituse Ltd. Cornerstone laid for Tartu Klaabu Kindergarten on the 27th April, 2009. Tartu City Government arranged a name competition for finding a name for the Kindergarten, there were 526 different offers from citizens for the name. The selected name was Klaabu. “Roof truss party” of Tartu Klaabu Kindergarten was on 29th June, 2009. The Kindergarten is two-story, general area of the building is 2000 m2 and the courtyard area is 5330,4 m2. The total cost of the kindergarten including access roads, parking lot, subscription with communications and other expenses were about 38 million Estonian kroons, from which the city covered 6 millions. On the first floor of the kindergarten there are 3 play-and bedrooms, kitchen, meeting-room and creation-room, andministration rooms. On the second floor 3 play-and bedrooms, hall, music-room, health-room and in the large foyer there is nature-corner with aquarium. Danish company KOMPAN playgrounds were installed to the courtyard by Atix Ltd and pavilions were built by VivocardPlus. Kindergarten kitchen was furnished by Dieta Ltd. Furniture was made by InestMarket. The builder gave the kindergarten to the city of Tartu on the 1st December, 2010. Since 22th December, 2009, Tartu Klaabu Kindergarten received an education licence no 5698 HTM from Ministry of Education and Research. First doors open day for the parents and children took place on 7th January, 2010. The opening party took place on 8th January, 2010. At the ceremony, the minister of culture, laine Jänes, the mayor of Tartu, Urmas Kruuse and the author of Klaabu, Avo Paistik, were present. THE HISTORY OF TARTU KLAABU KINDERGARTEN

Klaabu was born of raindrops and became a mouthpiece of laughter.
She cares a lot about her friends and she is mischievous.

Friendly Space for Children
One of our most important value is to support child´s social ja emotional development. We treat each other with tolerance, care and respect in Kindergarten Klaabu. We value the child´s independence, self-sudy and concentration skills.

Elements of Montessori Pedagogy
The child has freedom of action and, at the same time, clear restrictions to ensure safety for all. Montessori Pedagogy supports the individual development of children throught daily acitivities and through learning tools for mind and math. We have a cooperation with Estonian Montessori Association -  Eesti Montessori Ühinguga.

Practicing and co-operation
Kindergarten Klaabu offers internships for the students of University of Tartu and Tartu Health Care Collage. Teachers of Kindergarten Klaabu have supervised German preschool teacher´s programm students since 2011.
